How to Send SMS for Ration Stock availability in TN-A Step by Step Tutorial

 

As we have already mentioned in our previous post, Govt. Of Tamil Nadu Co operative Department have started a new SMS service to get the stock availability of its PDS shops( Ration shops).

Here is the step by step instruction and tutorial as to how to get the update.And I must confess that I was indeed surprised that TN Govt. can make use of technology to provide public service. Ok Here we go..

Step 1: The system requires mainly two important data. The zone number or district code in Tamil Nadu which you belong to ,and the ration shop  code or number.So first get hold of your ration card or family card.

District Code:

Look for the ration card number on top of your card. It might look something like this:

01/G/0557070

For example, in this number 01/ G/0557070 given for a family, the first two numbers, that is, 01 denotes the district code.

Ration Shop Code:IT

Next is the ration shop code: The shop code will be  printed in the bottom of the ration card’s cover page.Suppose let us take an example of ration card number as BE014.

Step 2: Sending SMS Format:

The SMS must be sent in a specific format to any one of the following numbers:97890 06492, 97890 05450, 91764 80226, 91764 80227, 90948 31766, 97907 25349 and 91764 80216.

The SMS must be sent as PDS space district code space shop code

where PDS stands for Public Distribution System.

For example, if a card-holder in North Chennai wants to know the stock in his ration shop, he should first write PDS and leave a space and write 01, the code of the district and leave a space and write BE014.Thus, the SMS to be sent is this: PDS 01 BE014.

It is said in press release that SMS can be sent to any one of the numbers given above. In case , if the numbers given above don’t work, you can send SMS to the numbers corresponding to the district codes given here in this page 

Note: These SMS requires nominal charges charged by the operators. One big relief is that these no.s are local numbers and so they are not charged if you have SMS booster enabled. So go ahead and make full use of this service.

Step 3: Received SMS and its Details

The received SMS comes from TM-RDS-PDS  within few seconds and contains all the details such as the commodities and the available packets or quantities as shown below in this screenshot.

 

Tamil Nadu Ration PDS Stock Availability SMS Service

 

Tamil Nadu Government’s PDS-Public Distribution System have started a new SMS Service  for the public . With the help of this  SMS Service, people can get to know the availability of various commodities in ration shops(fair price shops) in various parts in Tamil Nadu without having to walk in to a ration shop to find out that. This SMS service was in Trial Mode for the past 3 months and is now open to public

 

The SMS should be sent to the following numbers: 97890 06492, 97890 05450, 91764 80226, 91764 80227, 90948 31766, 97907 25349 and 91764 80216.

For example, if a card-holder in North Chennai wants to know the stock in his ration shop, he should first write PDS and leave a space and write 01, the code of the district and leave a space and write BE014, the shop code as printed in the bottom of the ration card’s cover page. District code and shop code differs from place to place and the card-holder can know them from the number of the family card.

As the server connected for receiving the SMS would be overloaded after 5 pm, the cardholders are requested to send their SMS in the morning hours to get quick responses.

Airtel Withdraws "Always On" Service from 5th Sep,2009

Earlier, in Airtel there used to be a service called "Always On" service by which you can get a talktime of Rs.10 credited to your account whenever your balance is less than Rs.3.


This service was accessible by sending a SMS with 'LOAN' typed to 121.An amount of Rs.10 will be credited and this will be later deducted when you recharge..

This option and service is now disabled or discontinued with effective from 5th sept,2009

Airtel Withdraws 18 Night SMS Booster Pack

Airtel has withdrawn the Night SMS booster pack(MRP 18/-) which it had released 2-3 months ago.As per the booster, the customer enjoys 10,000 Local SMS free from night 11p.m-6 a.m.

You might have noticed that of late ,Airtel has been in a spree of modifying and cutting old booster packs for the past 2-3 weeks as in my previous posts..And this falls next in line...

With effect from today i.e(18th April,2009) this booster pack service has been removed.Actually, I was using this booster pack until now and was really startled to see this SMS flash in the morning.

Kindly Note, owing to technical issue,Rs.18 Booster Pack has been withdrawn. An amount of Rs.18 will be credited in your Main Account today.

But adding more surprises was the fact that Airtel has actually credited double the amount (Rs.36/-) to my main account instead of Rs.18/-. But I could never take risks with Airtel as you might never know that they might realise their fault later and deduct the remaining 18 Rs. So, I have happily exhausted the amount talking....

But one thing which I like about Airtel is that they are atleast curteous enough to reimburse the full price of booster back to the main account inspite of me using it for over two weeks.

New Airtel Booster Packs for Chennai and TamilNadu

Airtel has modified or changed its earlier booster packs from this month of April. Some of the booster packs have been altered as per customer needs.(Some as per the company's needs as well!)


The Airtel 85 booster pack which was available for the past few months is no longer available. Instead a new booster pack with MRP 74 Rs. Have been introduced .Using this pack, airtel to airtel calls can be made at 20 paise/min and airtel to other mobiles @50 paise/min. No free sms.Other charges remain same as per old plan.


Another Airtel 61 Booster is modified with 100 free sms/day providing a suitable alternative to the usual Airtel 60 SMS booster 61 booster pack also includes A to A calls @30p/min and A to other mobiles @49 paise.
